FREEDOM FROM SLAVERY

1807 - 2007

THE 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE

ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE

IN GREAT BRITIAN

WHY APOLOGISE ... There are apologies coming from the British Government, the Anglican Church of England has apologized with a "March of Witness", members of society are saying sorry in various ways, the Queen has symbolically apologized by laying flowers at Wilberforce's stature at the remembrance ceremony.

Some people ask why should this generation need to apologize for their ancestors?

Well my position is that this society which is represented by this generation has benefited from the slave trade and their wealth is rooted in the institutions that were set up by & for the trade in human cargo.

HEALING ...

Saying the word "SORRY" with sincerety will begin the process of mental healing.

The next stage of the healing will require a form of repair or reparations to assist in the healing of the whole body, to put the injured into a position from which they can rise to their own feet and step forward to take their rightful place among the free.

YOU SENT US HOME TO AFRICA BEFORE ...

The abolitionist organised a movement of ex-slaves to settle in the west African country of Liberia, they expected no more than around 90 ex-slave to take up the offer of free passage, free land without taxes, alongside self rule.

To the surprise of the abolition movement a number of 1192 Africans flocked to the ships that were leaving the Western hemisphere, many extra ships had to be commissioned and in the end 15 ships were asail full of rejoicing Africans leaving Nova Scotia for the African west coast lands of 'Freetown" Liberia.

SAYING SORRY / WALK OF WITNESS

To The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Atkinson & The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu

We first appeal to you the leaders of the Church of England as the conscience of Britain to receive this appeal.

In this the Bi-centenary of the Abolition of the slave trade it would be fitting for the Church who played a large role in this section of history to support this resettlement project by the oppressed children of the slave trade.

We offer ourselves. our company & our projects in Ethiopia as a pilot project to prove that we are ready to put our African dreams into reality.

We have began our return to Africa, but we welcome any assistance that will help us to achieve our goals.
